The 4th Annual Sancta Community Theatre Awards The 4th Sancta Annual Community Theatre Awards were held on Sunday 18th February at an exciting and impressive Award Ceremony The 4th Sancta Annual Community Festival Award Ceremony, combining the 3rd Sancta Full length Play Festival, was held on 18th February as a precursor to The 4th Naledi Award Ceremony. At an impressive award ceremony, Ros Monat - Jacobs - writer, actress, well known radio voice, adjudicator, teacher, was the Guest Hostess. She stated that she had enjoyed her year as Sancta adjudicator, confirming that Sancta had a great role to play in education and acting as a mentor for the many multi cultural/lingual community groups that needed an outlet for their talents and had been surprised by the high standards of Community Theatre in both the One - Act and Full length form. Ros welcomed many theatre luminaries, people of high profile in the corporate world, the media and announced apologies from others in those fields as well. The 2007 Sancta Chair, Noel Mc Donald said there were 37 productions performed in total, with about 500 participants, reaching audiences well into the thousands, and approximately 200 nominations. The patron of SANCTA for 2006, Ismail Mahomed, who sadly couldn't attend, sent a written message to us "and reminded us that these participants enter into the process without seeking fame, power or remuneration. They do so for the love of the art, because their social consciences drive them to express themselves in theatrical ways and because we are part of an advanced civilization in which theatre plays a central role." He reminded us that Sancta has a great and responsible role to play in the advancement of Community Theatre and must look at new and innovative ways to carry out the task and wished all the nominees good luck that afternoon Noel Mc Donald, highlighted the Play Writing Course that they are running thanks to a grant from the Arts and Culture Trust, which is being co - ordinated by writer, activist, actor on TV and film, adjudicator, Ivan D Lucas- last seen with Vinette Ebrahim (Sancta 2007 Patron) (Charmaine of 7de Laan fame) in Boesman and Lena, and which is due to be re - performed at KKNK in March. This course is as a result of them, Ismail and other adjudicators saying in the last couple of years that work needs to be done by Sancta on Script Development for groups. Noel said it was hoped that a couple of these one -act scripts would see the light of day with the assistance of Sancta Groups and member expertise internally at the 28th Sancta Festival in August 2007.
