HOW TO BOOK THEATRE The Old Mutual Theatre on the Square is located on the north eastern corner of Nelson Mandela Square (formerly Sandton Square) – shop 121 – between The Butcher Shop And Grill and the Sandton Library. The theatre opens at 10:15a.m. daily. Tel: 011 883 8606 or 083 377 4969. NB: the box-office is open an hour before the start of each show, when tickets can be purchased or collected. PERFORMANCES Normally Tuesdays to Fridays, at 8:15pm, and Saturdays at 5:30pm and 8:30pm. There are a few low-price previews prior to the official opening of each new show. The management reserves the right to change times and dates of performances without notice. PARKING Plenty of secure, attended parking in the parking garages of Nelson Mandela Square. Entrances in 5th Street, Sandown (opposite Sandton City) or in West Street, off Rivonia Road, at the Michelangelo Hotel entrance - simply catch the lift to level 0 of the Square. There is also free parking at night in front of Sandton Library - corner West and Rivonia Roads. WHERE TO BOOK
THEATRE TELEBOOKINGS: Call the theatre directly on 011 883 8606 from Monday–Saturday after 10:30 am, or leave your details on the answering machine - we shall call you back to confirm. Please quote credit card number. IN PERSON: At the Old Mutual Theatre on the Square box-office an hour before the start of each show. SEAT PRICES: 200 seats in the theatre, including space for wheelchairs. Normal ticket prices: range from R120 Seniors range from R80 No refunds. Prices subject to change without prior notice. STUDENT/SENIOR CITIZEN REDUCTIONS Special concessions to senior citizens, scholars, students and registered unemployed. Valid identification must be produced. These prices apply only to shows on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings, matinees, lunch-hour and Saturday 6pm shows. FOR THE DISABLED There are 2 spaces available for wheelchair users and special toilet facilities. In accordance with licensing regulations, patrons in wheelchairs must have able-bodied escorts. Please notify the theatre box-office in advance to arrange for the theatre manager to be in attendance at the special ramp entrance into the theatre, from the parking garage. FOOD AND DRINK A bar and coffee bar is located in the theatre’s lower foyer. Order your drink before the show and it will be waiting for you at interval! Patrons are most welcome to take their drinks into the theatre. DINING ON THE SQUARE Before or after the theatre, enjoy the ambience of Nelson Mandela Square by selecting a formal meal from a range of fine restaurants with international cuisine, at the Michelangelo Hotel, or enjoy a light snack at one of the popular, vibey coffee bars. DINNER/SHOW PACKAGE PROMOTION Dinner / Show Packages apply at many leading restaurants on the Nelson Mandela Square. They are great packages for both a romantic dinner for two as well as a corporate function for both the staff and clients. All restaurants include a delicious three course meal as well as your tickets to the show at The Old Mutual Theatre on the Square. At Lekgotla, all the meals are served in a meze form and placed in the middle of the table to be eaten in true African style; providing a true sense of ubuntu! At The Piccolo Mondo at the Michelangelo Hotel, there is a great sense of exclusivity to the venue; it is romantic, stylish and very tasteful. The menu ranges from the mouth-watering Pappardella Funghi (Thick ribbons of pasta with a mushroom sauce and parmesan cheese) to Penne Arrabbiata “Fruits de Mer” (Seafood delicacies served in a spicy tomato fondue with penne and herbs) The Butcher Shop and Grill which is directly next to the theatre is one of Gauteng's most well known steak houses, as well as Montego Bay which is a well known fishery restaurant and serves everything from sushi to pasta. All meals are specially catered for both vegetarians and non-vegetarians. All Dinner / Show Packages exclude 10 % gratuity and the beverages bill, which needs to be settled at the restaurant. Aspirant young actors (6-18 years) can join SQUARE ONE YOUTH WORKSHOPS during certain school holidays.Fun-filled classes in the performing arts take place to develop talent, confidence, teamwork and concentration. Classes include drama, musical theatre, African dance, stage crafts, TV presentation, improvisation, Shakespeare and public speaking, with theatre specialists.
